While we have to deal with winter, I know it is hard on the animals so I throw out old bread, and fill up the feeders on a daily basis. I bought a few new simple peanut butter feeders for the tiny birds...they are just a section of a tree branch with about 8 wide holes drilled in them. I fill them with peanut butter, or suet and they are a big hit. But as you can see, I have a few hogs in my yard..while I love the squirrels, they just don't quit...they empty out most of the peanut butter each day, and the little birds just sit and wait their turns...there is about 4 of them running around the trees...I think maybe some grease on the branches might deter them a bit..would be funny, but just a fleeting thought...;) So now I am in search of cheap, outdated peanut butter since they are eating it so quick..Once the sun comes up they start arriving and around 9am, I think I can hear a faint, "hey guys, she put more out, breakfast time". I have so much fun watching them and my two cats just lay in the window banging their tails and chattering while these guys jump around and feed. The squirrels are relentless because not only do they empty the peanut butter first, then they move to the seed feeders...they have never ending appetites...so just a little story to lighten and brighten what I feel is a long, cold winter. Hang out a feeder or two, it will make you smile more than you think. Enjoy your days blessings....hugs...

Well I have to say thank you to all of you who joined my blog to follow me. I am truly blessed to have such a good start at this. We didn't make it to the 50 followers by January 25th like Donna said to have 2 winners, but we still will have a winner when I get to 50. We are close as I have 41 followers as of a minute ago. I have had so many nice comments from all of you, and I hope to keep you all interested as time goes by.
Today I am going to post a few pictures of some of the antique pieces that I have painted for the holidays this past year, 2010...as fast as I paint them and take them to a show, they are gone. Sometimes it makes me sad, as I work so hard on them..I think I may get attached in some weird way. But I know my customers enjoy my work and keep coming back to see what I have new. Unfortunately the antique pieces are usually one of a kind and when they are gone, they are gone. So some of my fall/winter shows are quite amazing to see how early the people gather to snatch up their treasure before someone else does. I appreciate all my customers over the years, I would not be here doing this if it was not for all of them. So let me post some for you, and let me know what you all think...some people cringe when an antique is altered, me I just think I am giving it a new purpose......hugs to all

Today it is really cold here, below zero all night and this morning. I don't like the frigid weather, so I try to stay put at home and work on new things. I heard my doorbell this morning and my mail lady had a package for me. I got excited as I knew my new prim friend Donna Wilkens had mailed out what I ordered from her. One by one I unwrapped my "treasures" and I wanted to share them with you. Her work is awesome, and I am really happy our paths have crossed. Leave me a comment on how you like my new things, and I am sure if you contact her, you can put in an order with her too.
I listed some of my vintage kitchen utensils I am giving up on etsy the past few days. I have so many that I decided no one person needs this many of anything. So I kept my favorites and embellished the rest and put them up for sale. I weeded out a lot of my old crocks and jugs too, but they are way to heavy to ship, so I am saving them for my shows. I have to admit, while I was dressing up the pieces, I did end up taking three of them back...I had second thoughts and back in my crock they went...but I did have three crocks full of them and now I am down to one. So I think I did good, the majority of the pieces are in a stock bucket for my upcoming shows. I am going to post the picture of what I got from Donna and get back to work..I hope you all are keeping warm, and I don't think I am the only one who is wanting Spring to show up early...have a wonderful day...Hugs...Denise

Hi Everyone, I wanted to chat today about this winter. Now I know there are some of you out there that are "Winter Lovers", but me, I am not one of them. I like the snow on Christmas Eve, and a little here and there, but this frigid weather we have had for so many weeks now is getting a bit "old". Now that we are in single digits at times, I am quite content to stay in my house and feed my wood burner. I cannot imagine living a generation or two ago when homes relied only on a small wood or coal burner. And the bathroom was an outhouse...Omg, I think I would have been a thinner person for sure, watching what I ate or drank in fear of going outside in the cold.
My bird feeders are empty every other day, and the squirrels, well....while I know they are also hungry, they are very much gluttons when it comes to the peanut butter logs and the seed. I am ready to try and grease the tree limbs to force them to "share" a bit...if anything it would be funny to watch...but for now, they are just hanging upside down and eating away while the little birds just sit and wait their turn. I think today I will work on decorating some of my vintage crocks and jugs for my upcoming craft shows. I really have to concentrate on sitting in the basement again. Having a few weeks off really makes it hard to get back into my creative side. I am posting a few pictures of my yard, waiting for my husband to plow it. One after thought, why did I hang all the bird feeders where I have to walk through all the snow to fill them? Everyone have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your day. Hugs....Denise

I have to tell you that Donna Wilkins of Sweet Prairie Dwellings is the best. I met her just about a week ago through facebook. She messaged me last night to tell me that I have to go to her blog and see something. Well I was amazed, how she took the time to help me get this blog noticed. She is doing a giveaway for me when I reach 50 followers, and I am in one night up to 16. Thank you everyone for giving me a chance to come into your day with some of my stories, crafts and pictures. I am going to join her in this. To whoever wins her giveaway when I reach 50 followers, I will also give them a special gift. I am posting a picture of one of the spools I just made up for my etsy shop, which will go to the lucky winner of Donna's giveaway.
Please take the time to leave a comment and let me know how you think I am doing with my blog. I am just learning the ropes and want to keep you coming back for sure. I appreciate each and every one of you, and thank you for stopping by. Donna, you are so kind, and thank you for all your help and advice....hugs

While I am patiently waiting for Spring to get here like most of you are, I have to constantly try to come up with different ideas for my craft shows and my etsy website. Spring and Summer are not my favorite times of year to make things for, as I may have said before...ideas for fall and winter just so much easier. So this morning I needed to list a few things on my etsy shoppe and I went to the basement and believe me when I tell you I have a ton of old spools. So I dug out these two that I am showing you pictures of today. The wood was dull and drab, so I took out my latex gloves and put a coat of stain on them. By the time I was finished wiping the excess off, they looked awesome. The grain in the wood barrel just popped. I just tied some fabric homespun around the tops of the spools, and added a 5" taper candle to it. Now I did dip this candle into some nice grungy wax a few times, rolling them into spices and coffee grounds to texture it up. I also added an aged coffee stained tag, with a short saying on each one. So I have quite a few of these I can do up if they sell well, if anyone wants to order one you can go to my etsy shop.....deniseskountrypatch.etsy.com
Different color fabric is available, any saying you want on the tag...just let me know through an email on etsy, they call them "convo's" not emails...but the same, same...lol But a quick new item, without a lot of prep work, they are quite heavy for shipping, but a solid old spool in very nice shape. I just wanted to show you some of what I love the most in my home are the old spools. I have quite a few, along with old crocks and they just make me smile. I think about the "good old days" before everything started to be made from plastic and made in China.....sad in a way isn't it.. Have a wonderful, vintage day....hugs, Denise

Hi everyone, well winter is still here with us, but it is the time now to "Think Spring" and all things that relate to it within the craft world. I know it seems weird to some, but crafter's are, and have been busy making bunnies, valentine items, St. Patrick and Easter even though it is still very cold and snowing outside. We always have to be ahead of the curve, just like the stores are. In order to get our items listed on web sites, or ready for Spring shows, we have to work on them months in advance. So I have had a busy week making a bunch of new bunnies, and a few new bears. I have a sweet customer who collects bunnies, and asked me to make again this year some new ones, and to also do some bears. As I sat and thought, I have drawn so many patterns up the last few years, how can I come up with new bunnies. You can just draw them just so many ways, but I sat down and started to sketch and I had 11 new patterns for my husband to cut out last Sunday.
He cut me out 130 little critters, and Monday I sat and painted them, Tuesday my daughter Jaime came up and she floated the edges for me. Wednesday I put on their sweet faces, pinked their ears, tails and cheeks, edge sanded them outside in the freezing cold... what I go through for my love of crafting....really I froze and had to come in a few times and sit by the wood burner. Thursday brought Jaime up again and she stained all them for me, she is a huge help in many ways. Today I added their small rusty star to their bodies and spent over 3 hours taking photos, and then listing them on my etsy website. deniseskountrypatch.etsy.com
I will post some pictures of these sweet critters, Jaime says I make them look "sad" all the time, but I tell her that is so people will want to give them a home...lol
Have a wonderful day everyone. Hugs....Denise
